What Does Hypothyroidism Therapy Cost?

November 22, 2019 0

For patients who are not covered by medical insurance – or – do not want to go through their plans, Dr. Melnick’s cost for diagnosis and treatment can be estimated to be between $350 and $1155 – as follows:

  • Initial Consultation = $350
  • Follow Up Visits = $200
  • Blood Tests = $60
  • Thyroid Sonogram = $150
  • Thyroflex Testing = $150

Blood Test Costs and Insurance Coverage

Blood tests are not included in the cost of initial consultations and follow up visits, although they are performed in Dr. Melnick’s endocrinology laboratory. In some cases, the cost of blood testing is covered by insurance. However – if there is no coverage available – blood test costs are approximately $60 through Dr. Melnick’s office.

If the patient has some form of coverage for the cost of blood tests through a certain laboratory – Dr. Melnick will have his staff draw blood and send the sample to the lab participating in your insurance plan. This saves the patient out-of-pocket costs and the inconvenience of a trip to the laboratory.

Thyroid Sonogram Costs and Insurance Coverage

Thyroid sonograms can be performed in Dr. Melnick’s office at a cost of $150, whether covered by the patient’s insurance plan or not. In some situations, to have the cost of this examination covered by insurance, the patient may be required to have it performed in a radiologist’s office participating in their plan. In both instances, the patient will be required to remit a co-pay depending on the coverage terms of their insurance plan.

Thyroflex Testing Cost – No Insurance Coverage

Thyroflex testing costs $150 and is not covered by insurance.
